Bienvenidos! The staff of Móntez Gallery welcomes you to our web site. The gallery is situated in a historic adobe church in Truchas, New Mexico, forty miles north of Santa Fe on the High Road to Taos.

My name is Rey Móntez, founder and owner of the gallery since 1989. Móntez Gallery is represented by a staff with expertise and devotion to heritage -- each with their special talents and pride in excellent customer service.

Pictured below is my nephew, Zachary Alejandro Móntez Skolnik, creator of this website and one of our sales assistants. Pictured in the center is my sister, María Margarita Raquel Móntez Skolnik who opened a gallery in Santa Fe in the 1970s named El Telar which showcased the weaving of my mother's family, the Jaramillos from Chimayó. She also represented santero Ben Ortega. At the right is my nephew, Benjamin Ramon Móntez Skolnik, sales assistant and creative contributor.

For almost four centuries the Móntez family has made Santa Fe its home.  The Jaramillo family has been in Chimayó for three hundred.   Since the 1600’s, family members have been builders, farmers, artisans, and those in the clergy. Among the most accomplished of the artisans is Ramón Móntez (featured in Tradición Revista magazine), whose devotion and perfection to detail represent the heritage and inspiration for Móntez Gallery.

Since the artist/owner Rey Móntez founded Móntez Gallery in 1989, the gallery has presented the largest collection of contemporary (representing over 100 families) and antique Spanish Colonial Art in New Mexico. Móntez Gallery is recognized by awards of distinction for its authenticity, representation, and preservation of this specialized art form. The gallery has become known for credibility and reputation for quality religious art objects from New Mexico, Mexico and around-the-world.  While in Santa Fe, Móntez Gallery was voted the "Best Hispanic Gallery in Santa Fe" by Santa Feans; Southwest Magazine listed us as an important reason to visit Santa Fe; Travel & Leisure magazine stated that we were the gallery to go to for Christmas shopping; all major travel guide books, such as Frommers and Fodor’s, list us as an important gallery to visit while in the Santa Fe area. National Geographic Travel has recommended us as have The Santa Fe New Mexican and Dot magazine.  Since the gallery was moved to the historic “La Capilla”. a one-hundred-year-old church in Truchas, forty minutes north of Santa Fe on the High Road to Taos, all has continued within a paradise of a village and building.

One celebrity that had his scouts purchase santos for his movie “Appaloosa” filmed close to Santa Fe, is Ed Harris. Since Móntez Gallery helped the movie with santos and period photographs, Mr. Harris gave Rey an autographed photograph thanking him "[for] all the great goodies for Appaloosa." Because he is a movie buff, Rey has on display autographed pictures of all celebrities who have made purchases at Móntez Gallery
